From A123456789 to AA12345678 to A1A2345678. This is the third format of serial numbers. With such a large population in China, would the authority just keep moving the alphabet to the right or add another digit to the serial number? In addition to the change in the prefix, the serial number has also reduced from 8 to 7 digits too. However one can also argue that the only alteration is the second letter prefix swap place with the first numeral digit, if you know what I mean.
